Manduka

Posted by Katie Orphey on

Sometimes it’s the bumps in the road that end up defining our journey. This is the story of Manduka, a company founded on the simple idea that a better yoga mat could make a world of difference.

In 1997, Peter Sterios, an architect turned yogi, discovered a simple, elegantly designed black mat whose combination of firm grip and complete support revolutionized his yoga practice. In honor of the yoga masters who inspired him, he sought to share this amazing product with others. One of these amazing products is Manduka’s yogitoes Towel, which are made out of a recycled and proprietary microfiber material.

Each yogitoes towel is made from no fewer than eight discarded plastic bottles, preventing them from entering landfills or polluting the ocean. The recycled bottles are woven into 50% poly yarn that requires 66% less energy to produce. The rich, vibrant colors are created free of AZO, lead and heavy metal dyes to protect their workers, customers, and the environment. Plus, they only use FSC certified recycled paper in their packaging. For Manduka, sustainability isn’t just a word – it’s their inspiration.
